What the call can sound like
An illustration. Real calls vary with the business.
- Phone menu“For appointments, press 2…”
- BookChooses appointments and waits for a person.
- Agent“I'm calling for Pat Kim. They have a renewal booked for December 18 and are looking for anything earlier.”
- Office“I can't see anything earlier right now. We do have a cancellation list.”
- Agent“Could Pat be added to it? What do you need for that?”
- BookYou get a text with what the office said and what it needs from you.
How it works
- 1
Text your appointment and what's acceptable
The office, your current date and time, the name on it, and the earlier days and times that would work.
- 2
Book calls and asks
It asks about earlier openings and a cancellation list or waitlist.
- 3
You get the answer
A text tells you what the office said. If you said which earlier times are fine, it can take one that fits.
What to put in your text
- The DMV office or the city, and the state
- Your current appointment: date, time, what it's for and the name it's under
- The earlier days and times you could manage
- Whether it can switch you to an earlier slot if it finds one
Good to know
- Book can't watch for openings over time. It asks once, per request. Send another request to ask again later.
- Offices differ on whether they keep a cancellation list or take appointments by phone at all.
- Many DMVs book online, and online slots can open up without notice. It's worth checking the website too.
- Book never gives a Social Security number or card number on a call.
