Skip the hold: let an AI wait, then talk to the person yourself
Some calls you want to make yourself, such as a billing dispute or a cancellation, but nobody wants to spend 40 minutes in a queue. Text Book who to call. The assistant waits through the menus and the music, and when a live person comes on, your phone rings and you are put through.
Example text“Call Comcast customer service, wait on hold, and call me when a person answers.”
How it works
1. Ask for it in your text
Name the company and say you want a call when a person picks up.
2. The assistant waits
It navigates the phone menu and holds for as long as the line stays up. It doesn't say what the call is about.
3. Your phone rings
When a live person is on the line, the assistant says one moment and Book calls you. Press any key and you're talking to them.
What to put in your text
- The company, and the department if you know it
- That you want to be called when a person answers
- Anything the assistant should know about reaching the right department
Good to know
- Recordings, hold music, queue announcements and voicemail don't count as a person. The assistant only brings you in when someone is actually talking to it.
- You can also text “call me” at any time during a call to be put through right away, or “call me when someone picks up” if the call is already on hold.
- If you don't answer, the assistant tells the business you'll call back, and Book texts you their number.
- Pressing a key is required, so a voicemail on your phone is never connected to the business.
Questions
- Can I turn my phone off while it waits?
- Keep it on and reachable. Book calls you the moment a person answers, and it can't keep them waiting long.
- How long will it hold?
- As long as the line stays up. Book ends a call after about an hour as a safety limit.
- Does it work for any company?
- It works for regular US and Canadian business phone numbers.
