An AI that calls your insurance company to check your claim status

Checking on a claim usually means a phone menu, a hold and repeating the claim number. Text Book the insurer and the claim details. An AI assistant phones, asks for the status and next steps, and texts you what they said. If the insurer will only talk to you, ask Book to ring you when a person answers.

Example text“Call Pioneer Mutual's claims line and ask for the status of claim 12345678, filed on October 3. It's under Dana Ortiz.”

What the call can sound like

An illustration. Real calls vary with the business.

  1. Phone menu“If you have an existing claim, press 1…”
  2. BookChooses existing claim and waits.
  3. Agent“Claims, how can I help?”
  4. Agent“I'm calling for Dana Ortiz about claim 12345678. What's the status and what are the next steps?”
  5. Insurer“It's with the adjuster. They'll call within two business days.”

How it works

  1. 1

Text the insurer and the claim

The insurance company, the claim number, the date and the name on the policy.

  2. 2

    Book calls and asks

It asks for the status, next steps, the adjuster's name and the best way to reach them.

  3. 3

    Read the answer

You get it as a text. If the insurer needs you, it says so.

What to put in your text

  • The insurance company and the type of claim
  • The claim number and the date of the loss
  • The name on the policy
  • Whether you'd rather be rung when a person answers

Good to know

  • Insurers often only discuss a claim with the policyholder. If they won't talk to an assistant, ask Book to ring you when a person answers instead.
  • Book doesn't negotiate a settlement, give legal or insurance advice or agree to anything on your behalf.
  • It never gives a Social Security number or card number on a call.
  • Book calls regular US and Canadian business phone numbers.

Questions

Will the insurer talk to an AI?

Some will share a status, and some will only speak to the policyholder. If it can't get the information, Book tells you and you can ask it to ring you instead.

Can it settle or dispute a claim?

No. It asks for the status and next steps. Decisions and negotiation stay with you.

What should I include in my text?

The insurer, claim number, date of loss and the name on the policy.
